Hi i have been asked by a friend to help him setup his business netwok, although i am a network engineer monitoring a WAN i dont have any real experiance of servers!

What i would like to know is what can a single server do? Can a single server be used to hold all network profiles ie AD, act as a web and email server and, act as a file sever and a proxy for security and internet usage monitoring????

The business will only have max of 10 users so there isnt goint to be a lot of strain on the server and the only applications that they use is office and anti virus!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If costs are an issue check into a vpn on a shared hosting platform. Although can be a little less reliable, this is a decent cost effective solution. Every server is going to differ in terms of performance and speed.

You can do basic monitoring like, ping, port status, bandwidth usage, mail server queue status, periodic backups, av scans & etc

Hi guys

I would like to setup a single server that acts as the host for a bunch of different companies, allowing them to each use their own domain name, but wind up at the same server. To do this I need to be able to point multiple IP addresses to the same box. In fact, the way the box will know which company it should be trying to emulate is based on the different IP address that the incoming traffic was trying to reach. Can this be done? Can I setup a single server, with a single interface card, to have dozens of IP addresses? Actually, I may want to use virtual machines as my hosts, so I would want to be assigning numerous IP addresses to a single virtual machine.
