Are you looking to buy one to use out of your home or are you talking about going through a hosting company? If you are going through a company, odds are your server has already been used by someone else

I'm not sure that taking a second hand server would be a good idea.Maybe you should wait until you raise some money.

A second hand server for home use would be fine if you have the knowledge of how to set up a server from scratch and have a good idea of how to install the different drivers and configure the disks properly.

I'm just not comfortable with a second hand server, myself. I'd have too much apprehensive that it wouldn't be quality, or long term.

You might look around on ebay and see what you can find on there. Another good tool would be the thrifty nickel. I've seen crazy things in there that I wouldn't expect in a regular classifieds section.

I have never heard of the thrifty nickel, but I am going to have to look into that one I think getting a server second hand would certainly be an adventure, but not something I would mess around with unless I was sure I knew what I was doing.
