In what situation would you need a top-of-the-art powerful server? Other than online game hosting, I don't see why you'd need such a powerful machine.

I think if you were doing a lot of database queries you would also need a great amount of power - for example, search engines need a large amount of power and infrastructure do to be able to simultaneously do such a high number of queries. VOIP applications are also very server intensive. __________________

I agree with mandiees. You would need a "top-of-the-art" server if you do a lot of database queries.

I would also like to add that if you are going to be getting into a lot of db queries you would want to research all of the SQL versions out there to see which you could use and have it run as lean as possible to use as little of the processor as you can. __________________

I also think the sheer volume of use would be a factor. If you're doing something with an extremely high number of uses, the top line would be the better way to go. __________________

I think everyone is right to an extent. There are many reasons to have a high powered top of the line server.
