I think that for anyone looking to get started on becoming their own server admin, a VPS is a good way to start to learn the commands and how everything works.  You can get a cheap VPS for $20-40 a month depending on who you go through.  Anyone doing this currently?

I actually put together a computer out of spare parts and put CentOS on it and learned Linux.  It was really fun looking back at how fast technology moved.

Hello,

Considering that you don't even know what server specs you should have, then you should forget about the entire VPS business and start doing something else instead. You can't just "start" a vps business by thinking, "Hey, i want to start a hosting business" on Friday, and then buy a server on Saturday and start advertising on Sunday :P You are doomed to fail.

Thanks,
